Do I have to make an appointment to have my pet seen?
Yes. The clinic hours are Monday thru Friday from 8 am and Saturday from 9 am to 12 noon. However, these hours only reflect the clinic being open, not the Doctor being on duty or available to see patients. During these hours, the Veterinarian is also performing surgery, diagnostics, client follow ups and patient discharges.Does Dr. Carr see emergencies after hours?
No. After hours emergencies are referred to the Veterinary Emergency Center South. That number is 804-744-9800, or the Animal Emergency and Critical Care of Lynchburg in Lynchburg 434-846-1504. Emergency situations are just that, emergencies. They are situations where critical care and/or surgery is required. These are not situations that a veterinarian can handle by themselves. The assistance of professionally trained support staff is crucial to the well being and possibly even the survival of the pet.Why does my pet have to stay overnight following surgery if the clinic is not staffed?
Following surgery, it is crucial for your pet to remain absolutely quiet and confined. Most pet owners do not have the facilities at home to accommodate these needs. While a pet will rest comfortably in their recovery cage at the clinic, they may not do so at home. The home environment brings with it a familiarity that invites the pet to resume it’s normal activities before they have fully recovered from their surgery and anesthesia. If for any reason the doctor feels the pet should be monitored during their recovery process, the pet would be referred to the Veterinary Emergency Center South for overnight observation and monitoring.
